Another plein air piece from September's stay on Monhegan Island in Maine. While I was there we got lashed with the tail end of Hurricane Hannah, and after a gray stormy day the weather started clearing towards sundown. There was an eerie, exhausted calm: dark sky, rosy sunset and the water of the harbor looked like glass. I painted as quickly as I could before the light went.

Small Sizes

an exhibit of small works at the Sherry French Gallery in New York. I will have in it two small plein air studies painted in September on Monhegan Island, Maine. I did this one sitting on a bench up on Lighthouse Hill, holding the tiny canvas in one hand, paintbrush in the other (palette on lap.) Clear crisp air, brilliant colors and sharp mid-morning light: heaven. I also have two still lives in the show.
